  14. <p>   The United States is pleased to announce that the 27
  15. member-states of the Nuclear Suppliers Group have agreed on
  16. common export controls of nuclear-related dual-use items that
  17. could make a major contribution to the development of nuclear
  18. weapons.
  19. </p>
  20. <p>   At a meeting in Warsaw on March 31-April 3, the Nuclear
  21. Suppliers Group approved a comprehensive arrangement to
  22. prohibit exports of some 65 key items of equipment and materials
  23. to unsafeguarded activities and nuclear explosives programs.
  24. </p>
  25. <p>   This effort, which began a year ago under US chairmanship,
  26. is the most important export-control initiative of recent years.
  27. It will fill a crucial gap in existing controls and will
  28. greatly assist in our efforts to halt the spread of nuclear
  29. weapons.
  30. </p>
  31. <p>   The United States is grateful to all of the participants for
  32. their cooperation in bringing about this important step in
  33. strengthening the global non-proliferation regime.
